Program Goals

Girl Scouts gain confidence, courage and character to empower them to make the world a better place and make the most of their own lives. How does this happen? Because all Girl Scout activities are designed to help girls progress in one or more of four program goals:

I. Develop Self Potential
II. Relate to Others
III. Develop Values
IV. Contribute to Society

I. To help girls develop to their full potential, Girl Scouts:

  • Fosters girls' feelings of self worth

  • Encourages girls to be open to new experiences and challenges

  • Offers girls opportunities to learn new skills

  • Allows girls to utilize and practice their talents and abilities

II. To help girls learn to relate to others with increased understanding, skill and respect, Girl Scouts:

  • Teach and model respect for other girls' needs, feelings, and rights

  • Promotes an understanding of individual, cultural, religious, and racial differences

  • Fosters the ability to build friendships and working relationships.

III. To help girls develop values to guide their actions and to provide for sound decision-making. Girl Scouts:

  • Helps girls develop meaningful values and ethics that will guide their actions.

  • Fosters an ability to make decisions that are consistent with girls' values and that reflect respect for the rights and needs of others.

  • Empower girls to act upon their values and convictions.

IV. To help girls contribute to the improvement of society, Girl Scouts:

  • Helps girls develop concern for the well-being of their communities.

  • Promotes girls' understanding of how the quality of community life affects every member of society.

  • Encourages girls to use their skills to work with others for the benefit of all.
