Plugged In! Laptop Training

You will learn to use a laptop computer to deliver one of our exciting Plugged-In! Programs. After completing this training, you will know everything you need to check out our laptop computers and get your troop, group or Service Unit Plugged-In!. Additional laptop training can be done upon request in your area with a minimum of ten participants.

  • Micro Fun: Come learn how to use a digital computer microscope. Use a microscope to take digital pictures and record movies. Put together your own slide show of pictures using special effects and digital paint tools.
  • StarGazers: Explore the planets, moon and constellations with the computer. Predict moon phases and star positions for your next camp out or birthday. Learn to recognize key constellations and planets.
  • Focus on Birds: Use Birding software to find out how to recognize birds and their songs, what kind of habitat they need, and their nesting requirements.
  • Tell It All! (New!): Microsoft Publisher is the latest addition to the software available to check out with laptops. This program is particularly suitable for use by Cadettes and Seniors working on the Desktop Publisher IPP.
  • Fractal Finders: You will learn to recognize patterns in nature and how they can be described and predicted. Using software you will build fractal trees and explore snowflakes and sunspots. This is a real confidence builder for girls and fun for everyone.

What is Bridging the Gap?

Bridging the Gap (BTG) promotes the idea that every woman and girl can enjoy and excel in science, engineering, technology and math. BTG is a set of activity tubs designed to make bringing science, engineering technology and math to your troop easy: Easy to facilitate, easy to set up and always successful. The tubs are designed to earn a Girl Scout recognition such as a badge or Try-It, as well as provide fun and interesting activities. Each tub includes detailed instructions and non-consumable or difficult-to-obtain materials, which are necessary to complete the activities. Several tubs for each program age level of Girl Scouting are available. Contact the BTG Coordinator for your Service Unit to check out a tub for your troop.

What Does a BTG Coordinator Do?

Each Service Unit needs to have one person complete the Bridging the Gap training to become a Coordinator. The Coordinator introduces the tubs to the troop leaders. S/he checks out tubs to troop leaders, gives them assistance, guidance and support, and is responsible for attending the Bridging the Gap tub exchanges at the Council Headquarters in Kansas City.
IMPORTANT! The dates for the tub exchanges have been changed. They are now going to be on the LAST SUNDAY OF JANUARY, MAY, AND SEPTEMBER. See below for the 2009 BTG New Coordinator Trainings and Tub Exchanges.
